On Wednesday we saw many of our clubs involved in ANZAC day ceremonies. Well done to all these clubs in representing their own clubs and league in a very special day. A big congratulations to Camberwell Sharks, Ashburton Redbacks and Glen Iris for working together for the East Malvern Dawn Service then later taking part in the East Malvern RSL ANZAC DAY cup.
Following Round 2 the league received an email from the club regarding the positive umpiring experience they received on the weekend. It was great to receive some positive feedback from our clubs and we encourage any positive feedback to be sent to the league as well, which can be passed on to the umpiring department. All Parkside teams wore black armbands on Sunday as a mark of respect for the recent loss in the Vicker’s family. Noel Vickers passed away after a short illness. Noel was father to Clive, a well known member of the Parkside community who is one of the club’s founding members, the club’s first President and Life Member. YJFL would like to pass on its condolences to the Vickers family.

Lastly this weekend right across Victoria is Community Umpire Week. Field, goal and boundary umpires play a significant role within the game and the week is designed to recognise and celebrate their fantastic work. We encourage all our clubs to give that little bit of extra appreciation to the umpires this week. If you are new to the game, or your playing days are over, then umpiring is a great way to contribute to community football. Regardless of your age, gender, culture or ability, anyone can get involved in umpiring and enjoy the many benefits the roles provide.
