An outstanding day of Girls Grand Final football has seen premiers crowned in the 2023 YJFL Youth Girls and Under 16 Division 1 Girls competitions.
The Girls Gala Day featured five Grand Finals played across two venues at Templestowe Reserve. Hundreds of spectators including family, friends, club members, and senior club participants attended Templestowe Reserve throughout the day to support the teams in the Grand Finals.

Heidelberg 29 def. Fitzroy 28
Kew Comets completed the premiership double with the Youth Girls 1B and Under 16 Girls 1A teams defeating Whitehorse and Park Orchards respectively. The Under 16s capped off a remarkable year with a resounding Grand Final win completing their undefeated season.
Maya Ellin was named best-on-ground for Kew in the Youth Girls Grand Final whilst Chloe Bown was adjudged the best player in the Under 16s.
In the Under 16 Girls Division 1B Grand Final, a dominant third quarter saw Ivanhoe go back-to-back as premiers after they defeated Brunswick by 28-points. In front of a raucous crowd, Ivanhoe showed toughness and skill to overcome their opposition and repeat as premiers after their 2022 triumph.
Ivanhoe’s Natalie Power was named best-on-ground in the victory.
St Mary’s and Warrandyte battled out a thrilling contest in the Youth Girls 2 which was decided by just five points. Both teams went back and forth in a nailbiting final quarter with St Mary’s just able to hold on despite the sustained pressure from Warrandyte.
For her powerful and eye-catching play, Jessica Fitzpatrick was named best-on-ground for St Mary’s.
In the final game of the day — the Youth Girls Division 1A Grand Final — Heidelberg held on by the smallest of margins to defeat Fitzroy 29-28. After losing out in the 2022 finals, and having battled through this year with injuries to key players and multiple losses to Fitzroy, the emotions poured out as Heidelberg celebrated their premiership triumph.
For her outstanding defensive work and contested play, Amelie Gilchrist was named best-on-ground for Heidelberg.
The YJFL would also like to congratulate all the umpires who officiated in Grand Finals on Sunday.
