Round 2 of the AFLW has been completed and all six former YJFL players drafted for this season took to the field.
Congratulations to Joanna Lin (formally Bulleen Templestowe) for her debut game for the Collingwood Magpies at Victoria Park on Saturday. A late inclusion, Jo was warmly welcomed to the starting line-up and enjoyed a 29-point victory. Coming off the bench, Jo had four touches.
Number 1 selection Ellie McKenzie (Fitzroy) stood out once again for the Tigers with a 15-disposal game. Ellie was described as “clean and composed playing in the middle for the Tigers.”
Jess Fitzgerald (St Mary’s) once again proved her number 2 status from the AFLW National Draft with a solid performance for the Bulldogs of 15 disposals, 4 marks and a stellar goal. Her goal started from a long run inside the centre square of Whitten Oval where she sent the ball deep into the forward fifty and followed up with a strong running effort to collect to the crumb and kick truly for her first AFLW goal.
A future star on the wing, Mimi Hill (Kew Comets) collected 19 disposals including a team high 16 handballs in only her second game. Mimi was named in the best in Carlton’s six-point loss to the Bulldogs.
Kangaroo forward, Alice O’Loughlin (Kew Comets) had a quiet game as her Roo’s trounced the Saints by 26 points. Alice finished the game with three disposals.
After an amazing debut game, Eliza McNamara (Ashy Redbacks) started on the wing and collected nine disposals including four tackles. Her Demons were much too strong for the opposing Richmond side.
