YJFL Players Star Representing Team Vic

A number of Yarra Junior Football League players were selected in the School Sport Victoria Under 15 Team. These teams headed to Adelaide for the Australian Championships in July.

The boys team played well and won all their matches which earned them a place in the Grand Final. After being down at Half Time, Team Vic  worked hard to get back into the game and won the gold medal defeating South Australia 11.6.72 to 6.3.39. The YJFL players included in the boy’s squad: Scott Beilby (Glen Iris), Braden Andrews (Boroondara Hawks), Ned Long (Fitzroy), Josh Ward (Fitzroy), Henry Brown (Glen Iris) & Elijah Tsatas (Surrey Park). Josh as well as being captain kicked two in the grand final was featured in the best players. Josh, Henry and Scott contributed during the carnival each featuring in the best players.

Special congratulations to Josh Ward who was selected for the Championships All Australian Team.

This year was the first time that School Sport Victoria entering a second’s girls team. In their last match Team Vic Girls 2 defeated ACT by 105 points. The YJFL players in this team were: Jorja Livingstone (Park Orchards), Alice Mayne (Bulleen Templestowe), Chloe Lee (Park Orchards) & Sarah Cato (Kew Comets). Jorja Livingstone finished 2nd in the Best and Fairest with Sarah Cato finishing 3rd.  Sarah was also awarded the Vic Spirit Award.

Team Vic Girls 1 worked hard to earn a place in the Grand Final against NSW. In a thrilling nine point win the girls brought home the gold medal. The YJFL Girls in this team were Mia McAuliffe (Park Orchards), Mia Papachristos (Ivanhoe), Stella Reid (Kew Comets) & Jessica Simpson (St Marys). Stella Reid was named Vice Captain and Jessica Simpson Deputy Vice Captain. Stella was also the leading goal kicker for the carnival and all the YJFL girls were named in the best players at different stages during the carnival.
