Yarra Junior Football League was lucky enough to be hosting the Under 15 Metro Junior Championship Grand Finals at Bulleen Park on Saturday. With both our Under 15 Boys teams facing off against South Metro Junior Football League, it was bound to be an epic day of football.
First of we had Eastern Region Girls take on the Northern Football League in the Under 15 Girls Division 1 Grand Final.
Final Score: ERG 5.14 44 Def. NFL 0.3 3
Tess Flintoff of Eastern Region Girls was awarded Best On Ground.
Next up was our Under 15 Div 1B side coached by Jeremy Dickson.
The first quarter was tight with only three points separating the teams at quarter time. YJFL came out strong in the second kicking 3.2 to SMJFL’s 0.3.
In the third quarter SMJFL fought hard to bring themselves back into the game, with YJFL leading by 23 points heading into the last. A very strong final term saw YJFL run away with the game kicking 3 goals to SMJFL’s 5 behinds.
This was a great result for the team following a very strong Metro Junior Championship campaign.
Hayden Telford finished with 4 majors and Stirling Phipps-Parsons with 3.
YJFL’s Griffin Schultz was awarded the Best on Ground medal.
Next up we had our Under 15 Division 1 A coached by Rick Daniels take on SMJFL. With only 17 points separating the pair in round one in tough conditions, this game was going to be a good one.
Both teams went in hard in the first with SMJFL in the lead at the first break by eight points.
As expected YJFL hit back hard in the second, particularly in the centre of the ground. This allowed YJFL to even up the score (4.4) heading into the major break.
After a low scoring third quarter from both teams it was SMJFL who had the lead by only 4 points heading into the last quarter.
Unfortunately, YJFL weren’t able to get any majors in the second half, but the boys did not give up until the final siren. With the final margin only 13 points it was a great effort and game of football by the boys.
It was a great effort by all the team and coaching staff and the Yarra Junior Football League would like to thank all involved for representing the league in such a respectable fashion. We wish all the players from all our Junior Championship teams the best of luck in their football careers.
