The Yarra Junior Football congratulates two former players; David Mackay and Marc Murphy after announcing their retirement at the conclusion of the 2021 AFL season.
Carlton’s Marc Murphy and Adelaide’s David Mackay were both players of the Beverley Hills Junior Football in the YJFL.
Marc Murphy had a 16-year career at Carlton. Murphy played 300 games for the Blues after being the No. 1 draft pick in 2005, spent six seasons as the club’s captain and was a dual best and fairest winner.
After his junior career at Beverley Hills, Marc was selected at TAC Cup level for the Oakleigh Chargers, while there he represented the victorious Vic Metro team at the 2005 AFL Under 18 Championships, winning the Larke Medal as the best player of the tournament.
David Mackay had a 15-year career at Adelaide and has played the ninth most games in Club history. Mackay played 248 games for the Crows after being the No. 48 draft pick back in 2006.
After his junior career at Beverley Hills, David was selected at TAC Cup level for the Oakleigh Chargers and while there he also appeared in the 2006 Victorian U/18 Metro side where he was inspirational in the grand final.
Marc and David were two of the longest playing former YJFL players. Now, Josh Kennedy of the Sydney Swans is the longest and oldest player after being drafted in 2006 from Ashburton Redbacks.
The YJFL congratulations both Marc and David on their great careers and wish them all the best for their and their families futures.
