Round Fourteen- Weekly Wrap

Can you believe it? Its already the final round of the season. Best of luck to all teams in their final match of the season before finals.

This weekend all Under 10 teams will be involved in the Lightning Premiership. This round robin event is great way celebrate such a fantastic season by all those involved. Club secretaries have been sent all fixtures and information. These are also now available  on our website.

The 2018 Lightning Premiership will be held at the following venues:

Burkitt Oval (Banyule Hosting) Under 10 Brown – Bulleen Park East & West (Bulleen Templestowe Hosting) Under 10 Green – Gordon Barnard Reserve & Upper (Greythorn Hosting) Under 10 Blue – Templestowe Reserve 1 & 2 (Templestowe Hosting) Under 10 Black – Ford Park 1 & 2 (Ivanhoe Hosting) Under 10 Red – Springfield Park East & West (Whitehorse Colts Hosting) Under 10 Girls – Citizens Park (Richmond Hosting)

The Victorian footballing community on the weekend were in support of a new state-wide AFL Victoria White Ribbon Round. The Don’t just sit on the Sidelines is the call to action for the round on August 4 and 5, reminding players, fans and coaches to stand up, speak out and act to stop violence against women.

Last week two more of our Youth Girls teams featured on Smash FM. Isabella, Georgia and Megan form Heidelberg talked about their season so far. Karlee, Alyssa and Olivia from Beverley Hills spoke about their love for footy. Head to our Facebook page for the link to the interviews.

The Australian Football boys and girls teams have just returned from yet another successful School Sport Australia 15 Years and Under Australian Football Championships. YJFL was lucky enough to have a number of representatives across both the boys and girls team. Well done to: Scott Beilby (Glen Iris), Braden Andrews (Boroondara Hawks), Ned Long (Fitzroy), Josh Ward (Fitzroy), Henry Brown (Glen Iris), Elijah Tsatas (Surrey Park), Mia McAuliffe (Park Orchards), Mia Papachristos (Ivanhoe), Stella Reid (Kew Comets) & Jessica Simpson (St Marys), Jorja Livingstone (Park Orchards), Alice Mayne (Bulleen Templestowe), Chloe Lee (Park Orchards) & Sarah Cato (Kew Comets).  The boys and girls team one both took home the gold medal. The girls two team although they didn’t make the Grand Final they also played some great footy over the carnival. Full story and photos of the carnival will be on the YJFL website during the week.

Parade St Damians are celebrating 40 years of their Football Club. To celebrate they  are having a party and dinner at Gavery Oval, Cnr Plenty Road, Bundoora. There will be fun activities for children of all ages starting at 4pm with a fully catered dinner starting around 6pm (per head charges apply for dinner only).This is a family day with all past and present members and their families invited to attend.

The North Brunswick JFC U9’s formed a Guard of Honour for the GWS players as they ran onto the ground against Carlton on the weekend. It was a great experience for the players.

It was a great effort by former Hawthorn Citizens player Alex Johnson who made his long awaited return to AFL. Johnson has overcome five knee reconstructions, a total of 12 knee operations, a reoccurring knee infection and one bout of groin surgery.
