Congratulations to July’s BJS Insurance Umpire of the Month: Sarah Poustie and Luca Fraillon!
Both Sarah and Luca are stand-out young umpires, have worked well with their coaches and are deserving winners of this month’s award.
As well as being an accomplished umpire, Sarah is also highly proficient as a player too. In Round 14 Sarah reached her 100th game playing for the Hawthorn Citizens, was a part of the U16 Vic Metro side in 2022 and was exceptional during the Yarra Magpies program of 2021. Umpire Coach Jon Thiele has watched Sarah’s umpire ability develop over time, “Sarah has been an outstanding umpire for us this month, and the whole season. She shows enthusiasm and a desire to learn at training. On game day she has an excellent feel for the game.”
Luca Fraillon has had a meteoric rise in the umpiring ranks. He is a clear communicator during games, gives direction well and is a confident decision maker. Harry Wray, Umpire Assistant Coach says that “Luca has been a fantastic contributor to the umpiring group this season both at training and on game day. His commitment to training and his work ethic don’t go unnoticed by the coaching group, and we have been extremely happy with his progress and development this season. Along with his professionalism, Luca is fantastic to coach and umpire with which is a testament to his attitude towards umpiring and his fellow umpires.”
