AFL and YJFL to host 'She Can Coach Workshop'



The AFL and the YJFL have joined forces as part of Women’s Coaching Month to host the ‘She Can Coach’ workshop on Monday 24 July at Ford Park, Bellfied.


Former St Kilda Football Club coach Peta Searle OAM will facilitate the session. Searle is a trailblazer in the sporting community becoming the first female to coach in the AFL at St. Kilda Football Club (Mens team). She developed and coached the St. Kilda AFLW team into a successful entry in the AFLW. She was inducted into the Victorian Honour Roll of Women in 2017 and has an AFL recognised coach of the year award named in her honour. She is now working with Victoria Police developing and facilitating cultural change and leadership programs and is the Coach Development Manager at the Essendon Football Club.

Date: Monday July 24 from 6.30pm (sharp) – 8.30pm

Venue: Ford Park, Cnr Davidson St & Perkins Ave, Bellfield

Time: 6.30pm (sharp) – 8.30pm


The interactive ‘face to face’ workshop is aimed at all female coaches and assistant coaches within the YJFL as well as mums, current female players, sisters, and any other female participants who may aspire to get involved in coaching.


The session will cover several areas of coaching and:

  • Insights into female coaching, opportunities & pathway

  • Role and Philosophy of a coach

  • Coaching (training, development)

  • Reflection (where to find us / upcoming opportunities / what the league can do to help)

This is a wonderful opportunity to engage and create a network with current female coaches and other females looking to get involved with coaching in the YJFL and provides an opportunity to showcase coaching pathways, and opportunities.
