YJFL Life Membership Recipients

The Board of the Yarra Junior Football League were delighted to present Life Membership of the League to Alan Vickery and Peter Nicholls at last week’s Annual General Meeting.

Alan is retiring this season after six years on the YJFL Board having joined in 2014 after spending seven years on the Surrey Hills Junior Football Club committee including four years as President and two as Vice President. He is a Life Member at Surrey Park. During his time on the Board, Alan carried out the role of Club Liaison Director, and visited many clubs on Sundays to offer advice and discuss issues.

Peter was the last League Secretary of the Hawthorn District Junior Football League prior to merging with the Doncaster District Football League to form the Yarra Junior Football League in 1997.  Since then, Peter has been a part time League Administrator, Tribunal Secretary and League Secretary prior to taking on a full time role as General Manager in 2011.  He has spent almost every Sunday of the past 23 years at Bulleen Park, many of them preparing the venue for match day, including marking the ground on a Sunday morning prior to the league outsourcing this job.  When the League took on female football, Peter added Saturday Morning Match Management to his long list of jobs and helped build a fledgling Youth Girls competition into what it is today.  Prior to Peter’s involvement in League administration, he was Team Runner, Committee Member and Club Secretary during his son Adam’s playing days at Hawthorn Citizens JFC.
