U14 MIXED – BRUNSWICK v KEW COMETS

Grand Final Day at Ford Park starts with the Division 1 Under 14 Mixed Grand Final between
Brunswick and Kew Comets. Both teams have had outstanding seasons, each winning 10
matches, with Brunswick finishing slightly ahead on the ladder with the aid of a drawn game
as well.
The teams have met four times during the season, and this will be the third meeting between
the two sides in the last month. Brunswick hold a 3-1 record this year, including a 47 point
win in their most recent Qualifying Final win. Kew Comets failed to score a goal on that day,
but bounced back strongly with a 41 point win over Camberwell in last Sunday’s Preliminary
Final.
Kew Comets Zachariya Kassaby has had an outstanding season, as has versatile tall Henry
Hitchen who can play at both ends of the ground. Brunswick will be hoping Luke Thomas
can give them first use of the footy in the middle, while Ben Alridge is capable of hitting the
scoreboard as he’s done in 13 out of 15 matches this season. Other players with strong
scoring power include Kew Comets Owen Trainor who has kicked 25 goals for the season,
while Lewis Imberger at the other end has kicked 24 goals for Brunswick.
Kew Comets had six representatives in this year’s YJFL Under 14 Interleague Team, and
Brunswick had five representatives, and talent spotters will be watching this game closely in
preparation for next year’s Under 15s Interleague Squad.
