Round One Weekly Wrap

It was a wet and soggy start to the 2018 season for the Yarra Junior Football League. With 24 extra teams then last year, it was great to see the league continue to grow. Many of the new teams were Girl teams including the new Under 11 Girls Division starting up.

Round One was an exciting day for 46 Under 8 teams who began their football pathway. Braving the conditions, it was great to see our next generation of footballers enjoy their first game and are all ready to pull on the boots for Round Two.

It was also great to see so many players reach 50 & 100 game milestones. Congratulations on all players achieving these milestones.

As a lovely mark of respect Parkside teams wore black armbands as a mark of respect for 2 PJFC members lost. Michael Romano, father of Vinnie (club founding member) and Anthony (seniors) grandfather to Issac, Michael and Matthew (past and current players at PJFC) passed away recently. Yarra Junior Football League would also like to pass on its condolences to the families.

The Vic Metro training squad was also announced last week. Congratulations to all YJFL players selected. Head to our website or Facebook page for full list.

It’s a busy week in YJFL with the presidents and coaching director’s dinner Wednesday night as well as Round Two being our ANZAC round.

Exciting times within the YJFL office with two new staff members. Welcome Jessica O’Connor (Administration Coordinator) and Shannon Lennie (Football Operations Officer). We also have some new sponsors coming on board which we will be announcing very soon.

Well done especially to all our new coaches, umpires, team mangers and volunteers who are the back bone of the league and the club.
