Grand Finals are always a fitting farewell to a season. Sunday was no different with 38 Grand Finals played across 14 venues as we bid adieu to the 2017 season.
It was certainly a big day commencing with the Grand Final Breakfast at the Manningham Club. 271 people crammed in to hear guest speaker Luke Power recount his journey from Balwyn Juniors to Oakleigh Chargers before moving on to the Brisbane Lions where he was an integral part of their three-peat in the early 2000’s. Luke was then involved with GWS in their inaugural season before moving back to Melbourne to take over the AFL Academy program.
With Grand Finals commencing at 10:15 am there was a mad rush for the door as members of participating clubs headed out to the early matches in the hope of glimpsing some Premiership glory.
All in all, 20 clubs were fortunate to taste success on Grand Final day whilst for the 2017 season, 10,693 players, from 477 teams and 32 clubs, participated in 56 competitions, playing in excess of 3500 matches and – had the time of their life.
Well done to the volunteers for making a huge contribution to their community, thank you to all of the clubs who hosted Lightning Premierships, Finals and Grand Finals and a big congratulations to the YJFL community as a whole for giving children, once again, the opportunity to play this great game of ours.
