The 2021 YJFL season is officially off and running after Tuesday night’s season launch.
The 2021 Season Launch was a roaring success as club representatives could mix with each other as well as meet their local councillors and YJFL staff & Board members to discuss all things 2021.
The night was highlighted by the appearance of Brownlow Medallist and former Ashburton Redback, Tom Mitchell who was there to support his new venture, Ball Magnets.
Other specials guests in attendance were YJFL Patron and three-time premiership player for the Brisbane Lions, Luke Power, who spoke on how good it was that footy is now back and the effect it will have in enhancing the wellbeing of the players.
New Head of AFL Victoria, Brad Scott, was in attendance and gave a great impromptu talk on the focus of AFL Victoria being solely on community football and the future of participation for all players. He greatly thanked all the club volunteers for their tireless efforts, especially in 2020 when footy was due to start twice and never got underway. Brad begun his speech by mentioning the great influence that YJFL Life Member Lawrie Barnett had on him when he was in Little Athletics many years ago.
Congratulations go out to the two new YJFL Life Members who were inducted at the event. Jeff Hooper, current President was inducted after many years of involvement in the YJFL especially in girls’ football where he led the representative side for many years and is highly influential in how the girl’s program is today. The second member to be given Life Member status is Neil Bowman, for his engagement at club level for Canterbury JFC and for establishing the Boroondara Hawks JFC.
We must thank the League sponsors and partners for attending on the night:
