The YJFL is delighted to have three women drafted to the AFLW who currently and have previously played in our League.
Stella Reid (Kew Comets) at pick #5 and Amanda Ling (Whitehorse Colts) at pick #22 are great representatives of our League having played 78 and 60 games respectively. Both girls were prolific leaders at their clubs and we can’t wait to see what they can do at the AFLW level. Brooke Vickers also played in and represented the YJFL at former club Blackburn, she was selected at pick #23.
The importance of community football is paramount in the development of young girls. Junior footy teaches the girls the fundamentals of the game while also allowing for a fun environment where they can learn game and life skills they wouldn’t get anywhere else. We are incredibly proud to see many former YJFL players prosper in the AFLW, like last year’s #1 pick Ellie McKenzie who credits her many years playing for Fitzroy JFC as the reason she is where she is today.
Stella Reid
Stella Reid has been selected at pick #5 in the AFLW 2021 Draft to Richmond. Stella currently plays for the Kew Comets and has played 78 games in her career for the Comets, starting in 2014 in the U12s. Stella has played two season with the Oakleigh Chargers where she has totalled 16 games, and kicking an impressive 20 goals. In 2021, Stella was called up to play a game for the Collingwood VFLW where she further stamped her claim for the 2021 draft. Congratulations to Stella and the Kew Comets and all the best in your AFLW career.
Amanda Ling
Congratulations to Amanda Ling for being selected at pick #22 in the 2021 AFLW Draft to the Western Bulldogs. Amanda played 60 games for the Whitehorse Colts and won the YJFL Best & Fairest award twice in 2016 (U15 3) and 2017 (YG 1). She continued her football development when she joined the Oakleigh Chargers and played 13 games with the Chargers. Well done Amanda and the Whitehorse Colts!
