Aquinas Band Together in 202125th October, 2021
Throughout the 2021 season the Transport Accident Commission (TAC) ran a program where successful clubs could receive up to $10,000 via the TAC Club Rewards Program aimed at rewarding clubs that have promoted road safety throughout the season.
We are happy to announce that the Aquinas Junior Football Club were the sole winner in the YJFL as they were shown to promote the TAC messaging throughout the season and have been awarded $5000.
The reward will be a welcome boost to the Aquinas JFC following the second season in a row severely impacted by the COVID pandemic, which has meant all our YJFL clubs have had fewer opportunities than normal to raise funds.
Club President Matt Slattery was overjoyed when receiving news of his clubs reward.
“This injection of funds is outstanding for our growing club. 2022 is looking even brighter with more female teams coming on board.”
The message of supporting drivers on our roads is one of high importance to Matt and this opportunity to share state-wide common communication could not be understated.
“By sharing & promoting these TAC messages within our family and our social media friends, we’re helping people add to their toolbox of knowledge. This may just be enough when it counts.”
Always strong through their social media channels Matt and Aquinas used the TAC’s Band Together campaign even when the round was cancelled to promote a very important message.
“As Victoria’s had great amounts of lockdown in 2021, our digital promotions have been our true focus. The ‘Band Together’ program was just about to launch when the 6th lockdown hit. So we adapted and ran the promotion online with our members printing-off their own bands at home and sharing their photos on our socials in their footy gear. This support from our players meant everything as we pushed on and raised the exposure of a great message…We did ‘Band Together’ even though we were apart.”
“Apart from the much-needed equipment to support our growth, we’d also like to deliver a youth driver awareness program for our older junior players. The TAC have made this extra activity possible and we thank them for their support.”
Brad Scott, Head of AFL Victoria, thanked TAC for its commitment to community football.
“TAC has been an incredible supporter of community football in Victoria over many years and the Club Rewards Program is yet another major show of support.
“Clubs, participants and volunteers will benefit tremendously, with the financial boost made all-the-more important given the challenges so many clubs and communities have faced in the past 18 months.”
The YJFL would like to thank the TAC and AFL Victoria for their ongoing support of community football and send our congratulations to Aquinas JFC and their playing community who will receive a huge boost going into the 2022 season.
