The Yarra Junior Football League was formed in 1997 through amalgamation of the former Doncaster & Districts Junior Football League and the Hawthorn Districts Junior Football League and is now one of the largest Junior Leagues in Melbourne. In 2009 the League will comprise 31 Clubs and field over 300 teams that play throughout the season on a Sunday with some night games on a Friday evening. It is envisaged there will be 32 competitions covering all Age Groups up to Colts (Under 16/17 combined Age Group) and including Tackers (Under 9 years) modified rules competitions where young players are introduced to Club football in a non competitive environment. The large number of teams in the League allows grading of teams within each age group so that each team, as far as is possible, plays in a grade that is commensurate with the team’s ability. Grading games are played in Rounds 1 – 4 to determine if the Grade (Section) for all teams should be varied for the remainder of the season. Commencement of 2010 Season It is planned that the 2010 season commence on 11th April. This is, of course, subject to the condition/availability of playing venues. If you would like to obtain more information about the Yarra Junior Football League please contact the League’s Administration Manager David Boyd (Phone: 9470 2884 or Email: admin@yarrajfl.org.au).
