The Yarra Junior Football League was formed in 1997 through amalgamation of the former Doncaster & Districts Junior Football League and the Hawthorn Districts Junior Football League and is now one of the largest Junior Leagues in Melbourne.

In 2011 the League was comprised of 36 Clubs and fielding over 350 teams that play throughout the season on a Sunday with some night games on a Friday evening.  It is envisaged in 2012 there will be 35 competitions covering all Age Groups up to Colts (Under 16/17 combined Age Group) and including Youth Girls and Tackers (Under 9 years) modified rules competitions where young players are introduced to Club football in a non competitive environment.

The large number of teams in the League allows grading of teams within each age group so that each team, as far as is possible, plays in a grade that is commensurate with the team’s ability. Grading games are played in Rounds 1 – 4 to determine if the Grade (Section) for all teams should be varied for the remainder of the season.

Commencement of 2012 Season.

It is planned that the 2012 season commence on 1st April.  This is, of course, subject to the condition/availability of playing venues.
