The Yarra Junior Football League has been running Girls Football Competitions since 2011.
The League commenced with a Youth Girls competition before adding an Under 12 competition the following year.
Girls football has continued to flourish and in 2017 we have just under 2000 registered players and competitions in:
- Under 10 Girls (modified rules)
- Under 12 Girls
- Under 13 Girls
- Under 14 Girls
- Under 15 Girls
- Under 16 Girls
- Youth Girls (Under 18)
Since 2011 the YJFL has hosted many teams from adjoining Leagues as they began to build up their own girls football programs.
In 2016, these hosted clubs successfully transitioned back into their own Leagues as the growth in girls football continued to bloom.
In the inaugural season of the AFLW nine former Youth Girls players were drafted and lived out their dream of playing AFL football.
